Yoga and Motherhood
Motherhood – From Blossom to Fruit
During pregnancy, yoga helps expectant mothers find a new physical and emotional balance.
It’s hard to think of another time in a woman’s life when she can influence her child more directly. By embracing the centripetal feminine energy of ‘being’, of listening and of connecting with her ‘inner being’, she cultivates a loving relationship with her child that not only develops but deepens.
As the baby grows, perspectives change, leg circulation, digestion, and belly weight change, and consequently the pregnant woman’s posture changes. Both physical and emotional balances must be continuously renegotiated and rediscovered. Recognizing these changes, becoming aware of them and embracing them is at the core of our prenatal yoga practice.
All of this, combined with mindful breathing, paves the way for a subtle shift from the external demands of daily life to a deeper connection with our inner selves. Meanwhile, the world around us continues to pull us outward, with the pressures of everyday life becoming increasingly intense.
Few experiences offer the same opportunity to cultivate inner awareness as being deeply attuned to the new life growing within. This precious time doesn’t last forever, as pregnancy often passes by quicker than expected. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance to reflect on the profound journey of becoming a parent and to cultivate a loving bond with your child’s unique rhythms and needs.
Returning to yoga after childbirth is just as necessary as it is difficult. It becomes a true challenge to find the time to participate in these joyful gatherings, now with your newborn, among expectant mothers eager to hear about “what comes next.” New mothers cherish these moments of reconnection, sharing experiences, and reflecting on their transition from pregnancy to motherhood.
