Midlife’s Turning Point – From Fruit to Seed

Yoga and menopause: a mindful practice to guide oneself through a new transition.

When we view midlife as an evolutionary transition, a period of personal growth filled with meaningful discoveries, we free ourselves from social conditioning that simply portrays it as a threat or an inevitable disaster.

The time frame of perimenopause is a natural, gradual and a temporary process, not a disease, even though its effects can be very intense. If a woman enters this stage burdened by exhaustion or unresolved emotions, the discomforts of the transition become amplified and prolonged. Much like adolescence, this phase brings emotional upheaval. She struggles to adapt to hormonal and psychological shifts which often leads to mood swings. It is during this time that a woman confronts and embraces her truest identity.

The body sends signals that beg to be heard when it speaks the language of lunar wisdom. This is a time to truly listen to the body’s emotions and the soul’s longings.

Everything that has been postponed in her life now resurfaces: passions, interests, and above all, creativity. Feminine intuition and insight are potentially ever-present, but now, the conditions are ideal for a self-transformation and “resurrection”, just as a seed is ready for rebirth.

Once menopause-maturity settles in, expressing her creativity becomes the challenge.

By living in the present moment, the here and now, she can approach menopause with greater awareness and acceptance. This state helps connect with her true nature, allowing her to identify not just with the physical or mental form, but with the very source of life itself, trusting in its natural flow (Īśvara praṇidhāna).

Through silence, antar mouna, we begin cleansing the mind, then it becomes possible to transform emotions and break free from past conditioning. This practice empowers us to turn stressful situations into opportunities to embrace self-love and growth, even responding to challenges with a smile.

The study of the connection between yoga and menopause marks the final phase of the Yoga and Women journey.
