Basic Prānāyāma and Yoga Nidrā

An introductory course on prāṇāyāma and yoga nidrā, designed to teach breathing techniques that promote a deep and progressive relaxation of the body.

PRĀNĀYĀMA

As a research, prāṇāyāma allows the expansion of one’s consciousness and connects you to your body of energy. Each yoga class is structured in three parts:

  • A preparatory phase focused on the body and breath awareness.
  • An intermediate phase dedicated to purification practices.

A final phase of actual prāṇāyāma practice.

YOGA NIDRĀ

Yoga nidrā is a pathway to understanding consciousness (citta) and its role in the multifaceted experience of human life. This understanding unfolds gradually as we move through the different mental processes that animate our inner being.

In relation to the external world, human beings tend to identify with what they “see”. Internally, however, they often identify themselves with the fluctuations of the mind. It’s our conceptual framework and sensory input that dominate and accompany our thoughts, imagination, fantasies, memories, aspirations and dreams.

The practice of yoga nidrā helps to construct an inner order and creates the conditions to attain an objective consciousness that does not identify with what we see, hear, imagine or remember.

This practice takes place in a still, supine posture, through a sensory exploration that guides the body into a progressive and complete state of relaxation. In this way, consciousness is freer to shift towards a deeper, more subtle inquiry. By controlling our breath and extra-sensory perception, we finally learn to observe our mental contents with attentiveness and detachment.

By predisposing ourselves, all of this allows each person to create the ideal conditions for a possible experience: the meditative state.

Classes are led by Barbara Woehler both online and in-person at Centro Studi Yoga Roma.
